1.About this video
This short video on the Razia Azeem Official channel is a warning with a way out: gheebat se bacho — protect yourself from backbiting. Its starting point is the verse every Muslim should know by heart: "And do not backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it" (Quran 49:12). The verse does not only forbid backbiting; it shows you what it looks like from the outside, so that you feel its ugliness before you join in.
2.Key reflections
Most gheebat does not begin with a wicked plan. It begins with a harmless-sounding sentence in a gathering — "Did you hear about...?", "I am only telling you so you know" — and suddenly everyone is adding a detail. The way out is decided before the moment arrives. If backbiting starts in front of you, you have three doors, and any one of them saves you: gently change the subject, speak a good word for the absent person, or simply get up and leave. Silence while staying seated still counts as joining in, because your presence is the audience the backbiting needs.
And there is a reward for the harder choice. A narration reported in Sunan al-Tirmidhi (1931, graded hasan) carries the meaning that whoever defends the honour of his brother in his absence, Allah will shield his face from the Fire on the Day of Resurrection. Defending someone who cannot hear you is the exact opposite of backbiting them: one hands your good deeds away, the other earns you protection. The next time a gathering turns to gossip, that is the trade on the table — and it is a trade worth making.
3.Watch & share
