1.About this video
This new short on the Razia Azeem Official channel takes up one of the most important — and most misunderstood — family topics in Islam: the huqooq (rights) of the husband over his wife. It is a topic the Quran and Sunnah address with great seriousness, but always inside a framework of love, mercy and mutual responsibility.
2.Key reflections
The Prophet ﷺ emphasised these rights in striking terms — a narration reported in Jami' at-Tirmidhi carries the meaning that if he were to command anyone to prostrate to another, he would have commanded the wife to her husband. That shows how seriously Islam takes a wife's obedience and loyalty. But the very same Shariah places the husband under his own heavy obligations: "And women have rights similar to those over them, in kindness" (Quran 2:228), and "live with them in kindness" (Quran 4:19).
Marriage in the Quran is described with two beautiful words: mawaddah and rahmah — love and mercy (Quran 30:21). The Prophet ﷺ was himself the living example: "The best of you are the best to their families" (Jami' at-Tirmidhi). A home where rights are honoured on both sides — and where kindness leads — is a home where faith and family both thrive.
